The Biggest Change I Made in My Product Business…

Hello Friends,

One of the biggest changes I’ve made in my product business is surprisingly simple:

I stopped asking,

“What should I make next?”

and started asking,

“What can I build around this idea?”

That small shift has changed the way I look at product creation.

Instead of creating one random product, publishing it, and then starting all over again with a completely unrelated idea, I’ve been thinking more in terms of:

product families companion products collections and related offers

And I think this can work whether you sell on Etsy, KDP, your own website, or somewhere else entirely.

Here’s a simple example

Let’s say you create a gardening planner.

At first, that may seem like one product.

But once you ask,

“What could I build around this?”

you start seeing other possibilities.

That gardening planner could lead to:

• A garden journal • Seed inventory pages • Plant-care cards • Garden labels • Seasonal garden checklists • A gardening log book for KDP • A printable garden bundle • Coordinating stickers • Pinterest graphics • A beginner gardening version

Suddenly, you’re not trying to invent ten unrelated products.

You’re building around one idea that already makes sense.

And that can make your business feel much less scattered.

Why I Like This Approach

There are a few reasons I’ve become such a fan of creating this way.

You spend less time deciding what to make.

If one idea naturally leads to another, you don’t have to start your brainstorming from zero every time.

You can reuse more of the work you’ve already done.

Your research, color palette, graphics, layouts, keywords, product descriptions, and marketing ideas can often carry over into related products.

Your products can work together.

That gives you opportunities for bundles, companion products, upgrades, and collections.

And there’s another benefit I especially like:

You get more mileage from the good ideas you already have.

That’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot while building up my own product offerings.

When I find a theme or concept I enjoy working with, I’m much more likely now to stop and ask:

“What else belongs with this?”

Sometimes the answer is another book.

Sometimes it’s a printable.

Sometimes it’s a PLR product.

Sometimes it’s a bundle, a set of Pinterest graphics, or a completely different format.

The goal isn’t to force every idea into a giant product line.

It’s simply to stop using a good idea once and then throwing it away.

Try This Before Friday

Pick one product you already have.

It could be:

• Something you currently sell • A KDP book • A printable • A planner • A PLR pack • A graphic set • A template • Or even an unfinished product sitting on your computer

Then ask yourself just one question:

“What would someone who buys this want next?”

Don’t worry about coming up with a perfect answer.

Just keep that product in mind.

Because on Friday, your next Make It This Weekend challenge is going to be built around it.

We’re going to see if we can find five natural products hiding around that one idea.

You won’t have to make any of them yet.

We’re simply going to practice seeing more possibilities in what you already have.

That’s one of the habits I want us to build together with this newsletter:

Create more thoughtfully. Use what you already have. And make good ideas work a little harder for you.

Talk soon,

Tamra

P.S. On Friday, bring that one product with you. I’ll give you a simple 15-minute exercise to uncover five companion-product ideas — and you may discover that your next product idea is already sitting right in front of you.
